The National Bioinformatics Talent Development & Deployment Summit 2026 (also known as the National BioINFO Summit 2026) was co-organised by Dr. Omics Edu (Dr. Omics Research and Education Private Limited) and the Life Sciences Sector Skill Development Council (LSSSDC), Government of India. The Summit brought industry leaders, academic institutions and government bodies together on one platform with a single goal: taking bioinformatics talent from policy to placement. Who organised the Summit?
The Summit was a joint initiative of two organisations working to build India's bioinformatics workforce.
LSSSDC (Life Sciences Sector Skill Development Council) was set up in 2014 by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) together with industry representatives. It is an awarding body recognised by the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET) and works under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India. It is the only sector skill council dedicated to the life sciences, covering pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical devices and R&D services. It has certified more than 98,000 trainees.
Dr. Omics Edu is a genomics and bioinformatics research and education organisation based in Delhi, and the Official Bioinformatics Training Partner of LSSSDC. It has trained more than 50,000 learners and runs the LSSSDC-certified Bioinformatics Analyst course.
Together, the two organisations bring national skill standards and certification (LSSSDC) and hands-on, industry-ready training (Dr. Omics Edu) to the same table.
Why was the Summit needed?
India's demand for bioinformatics professionals is growing quickly, driven by genomics research, precision medicine, drug discovery and digital health. Yet employers often struggle to find candidates with practical skills, while many life science graduates struggle to find roles that use their training.
The problem is not a lack of talent but a lack of connection. Industry hiring needs are rarely shared with academic institutions, and graduates are rarely trained against those needs. The Summit closed this loop by bringing all sides into the same room.
What happened at the Summit?
The Summit was built around three core activities.
1. Policy dialogues
Leaders from government, academia and industry discussed the growing skill gap in bioinformatics and how policy, curricula and industry needs can be aligned. They focused on building industry-relevant skills and closing the gap between academia and industry to create a future-ready workforce.
2. Talent mapping sessions
Participating organisations shared their current hiring needs: the roles they are recruiting for, the skills they require and the gaps they face. This gave a clear picture of what the bioinformatics job market needs today.
3. Live showcases of pre-trained talent pools
Graduates already trained in industry-relevant bioinformatics skills were presented to employers. Employers could see candidates' capabilities first-hand and connect with them directly.
Participants also explored collaborative initiatives to strengthen industry-aligned training, encourage innovation and improve employability across the life sciences sector.

The Summit drew participation from the life sciences industry. Among the industry leaders taking part was Mr. Praveen K. Gupta, Managing Director of Premas Life Sciences Pvt. Ltd., a Delhi-based company that brings advanced life science technologies to research and clinical diagnostics in India. LSSSDC presented him with a token of appreciation for his participation and contributions to the Summit.
